The role

At The Sharing Group we deploy a modern cloud data stack consisting of (amongst others): Hevo, Snowflake, dbt and Tableau. Our data platform supports all major brands of TSG in their analytics journey, including Mijndomein, MyWheels and EnergyZero. You will join and lead a team of (3) engineers at enterprise level in addition to (~5) data analysts working at brand level.

As Senior Data Engineer, you provide clean data sets to end users, modeling data in a way that empowers data analysts and end users to analyze and answer their own questions. You apply software engineering best practices like version control, clean code principles and continuous integration to the TSG analytics code base. You ensure data transformations are tested, documented, monitored and performant. You design, maintain, and safeguard a fit-for-purpose data architecture and governance framework. You’re an ambassador to our data platform by advocating to management and development teams the use of data as first-class citizens.

50-60% of the job is building out datasets and setting up monitoring, testing and automation around those. 20% is more of a consultant role within the (virtual) data team, to enable analysts and engineers to do their jobs better e.g. cleaning up scripts/queries they’ve written and showing them how they can improve. The final 15-20% will be split between maintaining and updating the engineering backlog and roadmap, improving the data platform in general and advocate/ advise management, (software)engineers and end-users on the (strategic) use of the platform and data in general.

Job requirements

  • You have 5+ years of experience in building data models and ETL/ELT pipelines.

  • You have a strong interest in data engineering practices and product knowledge, specifically in how to leverage the power of analytics into business value.

  • You have a good understanding of Software Engineering practices and Data Engineering principles.

  • You can communicate complex outcomes with clarity over a wide range of audiences

  • Technology: dbt and SQL are a must.

  • A strong statistics/mathematics background is a plus.

  • Experience as a team lead is a plus.

  • Mentality: A hands-on and experimental mindset with a launch fast and iterate mentality.
